PRESIDENT IN CENTRAL JAVA: OFFICIALLY OPENED STEAMED- POWERED ELECTRIC GENERATOR TANJUNG JATI B PDF Print
Sunday, 29 October 2006
President SBY on Saturday (14/10) afternoon officially opened Steamed-Power Electric Generator (PLTU) Tanjung Jati B, in Subdistrict Bangsri, Jepara Regency, Central Java. The development of the PLTU was once stopped due to monetary crisis in 1977, then it was continued in the middle of 2003.

The inauguration was marked by pressing sirine button by President, accompanied by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resource (ESDM) Purnomo Yusgiantoro and Governor of Central Java Mardiyanto and Regent of Jepara Hendro Martojo.

In his report, Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro said that the evelopment of Tanjung Jati B was postponed due to monetary crisis in 1997. In the middle of 2003 the development was continued by doing renegoitation. PLTU Tanjung Jati B which is using coals from East Kalimantan, has 2 x 660 megawatts capacity. The cost for the development was about 1.5 billion US Dollars and will be buit on a plot of land of 150 hectares wide, and it has three thousand employees.

PLTU Tanjung Jati B is an integral part of associated electric provider network of Java-Madura- Bali (Jamali), amounted to 15 thousand megawatts. "By operating the PLTU Tanjung Jati B, the demand of qualified electrical power with reachable price in Jamali area can be fulfilled," said Minister of ESDM.

President SBY in his remark said that in the future the government will not raise basic electricity rates regarding that the supply of energy demand will be increased from year to year. "Since Indonesia was established untill now, we have produced electrical power of 25 thousands megawatts. The total certainly does not comply with the demand. In order to comply with the demand, we have to increase PLTU capacity up to 10 thousand megawatts," said President.

By operating the PLTU Tanjung Jati B, national electrification can be realized soon. We have experienced a monetary crisis which made the price of fuel highly raised. We don't want such matter happen again. Therefore, at this moment, the government does not fully depend on its energy source from fuel, and step by step alligns it to coal and biodesel energy," said President. President also explained that Indonesia strongly try to deduct subsidy on electric and fuel. President also hoped that State Electric Power Company (PLN) will always improve its electric power distribution and service management.

In the opening of PLTU Tanjung Jati B, President and the First Lady were accompanied by some ministers such as Minister of ESDM Purnomo Yusgiantoro, State Minister for State-Owned Enterprises Sugiharto, State Minister for Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Suryadarma Ali, Minister of Public Works Djoko Kirmanto, Minister of Health Affairs Siti Fadillah Soepari, and Cabinet Secretary Sudi Silalahi. President Director of PLN Eddi Widiono and some investors also attended the event of PLTU opening.

After the inauguration, President and Mrs. Ani and the entourage soon observed areas of PTLU Tanjung Jati B, before returning to Semarang for going backhome to Jakarta. President SBY and his wife were in Central Java since Friday (13/10) afternoon.
