Banda Aceh - Finnish President Tarja Halonen arrived in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) province on Tuesday for a state visit to obtain first hand information on peace process, reconstruction and rehabilitation processes in the province which was hit by a devastating tsunami on December 26, 2004.
After lunch, the Finnish president was scheduled to visit a reconstruction project at Lambung and Blang Oi villages in Meuraxa subdistrict in Banda Aceh.
President Halonen was scheduled to hold a press conference before leaving for Singapore at 4.30 in the afternoon.
The Finnish president`s presence in Aceh is part of her two-day state visit to Indonesia to reciprocate President Yudhoyono`s visit to Finland in 2006.
While in Jakarta on Monday, the Finnish president said her country and Indonesia would continue to step up the bilateral relations.
On the occasion, Indonesia and Finland signed a cooperation agreement on the environmental field including anticipation of climate change as a follow-up to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) which was held in Bali last year.
The agreement was signed by Indonesian Environment Minister Rachmat Witoelar and his Finnish counterpart, Paavo Vayrynen, in the presence of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and President Tarja Halonen at Merdeka Palace. (*)
