All activities in international and interstate relations are essentially diplomatic relations at its core an attempt to maintain relations among states. Formal diplomacy undertaken by representatives of the diplomatic corps and the corps of consular representatives. Diplomatic corps representatives, led by an ambassador while consular corps representatives led by a consul general. Consulate basically almost identical to the embassy, but it works only in the area handling consular relations or human relations and economic relations, not including political relations.
The opening of diplomatic relations is also a concrete effort to strengthen relations and cooperation with other countries which in turn is expected to improve the welfare of the people in both countries. For this purpose, the Government of Indonesia now has as many as 118 representatives of 87 Embassies, Permanent Mission of 2 for the United Nations in New York and Geneva, and 30 Consulate General and Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia. In addition Indonesia also has raised 64 honorary consul.
